BIBLE STUDY TOPIC FOR YOUTH:- ABSTINENCE
In a plain term abstinence means to keep away. To explain further abstinence is the practice of restraining oneself from indulging in something, abstinence is a really broad term and it cuts across every aspect of life and we will deal with some of it.
As youth we are more prune to be involved in sin because of what we call youthful exoberant. There are many temptation we can face and which we need to abstain from. as Christians we are to abstain from every appearance of evil (1thessolonian 5:21) But these four are going to be our case study;
what should we abstain from as a youth (what should youth abstain from)
proverbs 20:1 says “wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging and whosoever is decivied therefore is not wise”.
Many youth are addicted to taking alcohol which is not good. Note that I didn’t say taking wine is not good we are talking of alcohol, some Christian decided to twist the Bible to suit them by saying that after all Jesus turned water to wine, yes he did but was it alcohol.
Wine does not mean alcohol in all cases because if it does that means Jesus sinned by turning water to wine and giving it to the people because habakkuk 2:15 says “woe into him that giveth his neighbor drink, that puttest the bottle to him and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness”.
As Christian youth we ought to learn to abstain from alcohol,some may ask if you can drink wine to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31 says ” whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God”.
thou shall not lie with mankind as with womankind, it is abomination.
The scripture has clearly stated this to be abomination but our society is beginning to encourage Homosexuality. God made sex to be shared by the two opposite gender as seen in Genesis 4:1. God detest Homosexuality it is better to loose from the chain and the grip of the devil and come back to Christ before it is too late.
3 Unapproved sex:
it is called Unapproved sex because having sex isn’t a sin if done with the right partner. So what then is Unapproved sex- this is having sex before marriage (fornication) and a married person having sex outside of marriage (adultery).
Fornication and adultery is a sin that God himself will judge because it is a sin with your body which is the temple of God. I Corinthians 6:20 says “for ye are bought with a price, therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit which are God’s”
1 Corinthians 6:16 says “what? Know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body, for two saith he shall be one flesh”
1 Corinthians 6:15 also says “know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ, shall you then take the members of Christ and make them the members of an harlot?”.
The Bible in so many places warns against sexual sins and this is unfortunately the order of the day amongst youth. We need to be careful because the Bible also says that whoever looks at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already. Youths should try as much as possible to stay positive minded and don’t get over attached with the opposite sex, and they should know that God is readily willing to help them but they also have their part to play.
4 DRUG ADDICTION:
this is one of the sins that so easily besets youth, and they sometimes don’t know how to get out of it. a drug addict did not intend to be addicted to it but little by little, gradually gradually he/she realizes/thinks that he cannot survive without it, most youth sometimes take drugs to help them forget about their burdens but they have forgotten that the Bible says come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden for I will give you rest. God hates sin but he loves sinners in his word in Isaiah 1:8 it says “come let us reason together saith the Lord, though your sins be as Scarlet, they will be as white as snow, thought they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

Whatever sin you are addicted to God is willing and able to help you if only you can come to him for forgiveness, forsake your sins and never go back to them.
