HOW TO MEDITATE ON THE WORD OF GOD

“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” Ps 119:11 KJV

What is meditating on the word of God?

Meditating on the word of God simply means reading, studying and putting to practice the word of God
There are many reasons why we should study and meditate on God’s word, in this article we shall see how and why we should meditate on his word.

Importance of and  meditating on the word of God

One of the importance of meditating on the word of God is

1. To live a life that is above sin,
Sin is a factor that the devil use to send servants and people in Christ to hell but as we all see in our introduction passage psalm119 vs 11 clearly explain to us that to overcome sin and temptations of the devil we must meditate/study the word of God, its one and the only tool God gave us to fight sin
Another reason we should meditate on the word of God is

2. To increase our faith in God.

Rom 10:17 “So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God”.KJV

3. To have or to develop our Faith in God

Romans 10 explain that the only way faith come is by hearing and not just hearing but hearing the word of God that’s why Joshua told his people in Joshua chapter 1 vs 8 that “this book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth that ye shall meditate on it day and night”.

The last reason i will give is that

4. the word of GOD is the ultimate weapon God has given us in fighting the devil

He said in Heb 4:12
“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

How should we meditate on the word of GOD?

1. Open your heart to meditating on his word

Imaging someone forcing you to read a book, you will probably be on a page for hours without gaining from it. That’s how God’s word is, before you can meditate on His word you must have programmed your mind and heart that you really want to, not because anyone is forcing you too but because you know the important of it
2. Invite the holy spirit to read with you

You don’t just take your bible and start reading, the bible is a book that anyone can read but the difference in meditating on His word is the fact that you need the holy spirit which is the third person in the trinity to come and interpret the word of God to you. Because Jesus our lord has sent him down to be our comforter and interpreter

3. Use a study guide

Its indeed very hard to know where to open to read but using a daily devotional study guide can help. I was advise long ago as a baby Christian that I should start reading from the new testament and the books for romans, you can start from the new testament and then later read the old testament, if you don’t have a daily devotion

4.Read though the bible passage

This is the point where you read the passages and don’t rush let the word speak to you, read it and think about what you read ask questions on how it can be related to your daily activities ask yourself what God is telling you in that passage, you can also use references, it leads you to other related bible passage you can use it if your bible has one.

In This our days when we want to meditate on the word of God we see many things coming up like social media notifications, I’ll advise you not to use your phone to read the bible and if you must use your phone make sure your data is off, or u can put it on focus mode so not to drive our attention from it.

5.Make a closing prayer and worship God

After reading and meditating on His word you need to sing few worship song, bless His name and make a closing prayer.

Mediating on the word of God is very important for spiritual growth, if we must grow we need to read and study his word, and its not something that should be done once but every day of our lives at any point in time I pray the lord will help us in Jesus name.
