What is Sin?

Sin is simply disobedience to God. It can also be breaking the rules and regulations of heaven,these rules were made to guide us in our journey here on Earth to eternity. Every act of disobedience to God’s commandment is sin but there are some sins which are more deadly and these seven we are going to consider.

What are The seven (7) deadly Sin

The seven deadly sins are the sins which cry to heaven for vengeance, the Bible made us to understand that there are some sins that God do not take lightly with and these are what we are looking at.

Those are the seven (7) Deadly sins

1. PRIDE

2. GREED

3. LUST

4. ENVY

5. GLUTTONY

6. WRATH

7. SLOTH

PRIDE

The sin of pride is the sin of the heart which is giving exaggerated attention to one’s achievement, accomplishment, position or possession.pride can be called the cancer of the soul because of its deadly nature.pride was the first sin committed and also the cause of the fall of Lucifer. Most Christian struggle with the sin of pride and don’t know how to deal with it. The Bible in James 4:6 says that “but he gives us more grace wherefore he saith God resisteth the proud and gives grace to the humble”

God is not happy with the proud but he said that if you can humble yourself before the Lord that he will lift you up. He is willing to accept you if you are willing to keep pride aside and come to him.

GREED

The selfish or intense desire to to aquire something especially wealth,power,food or game is called greed.

The sin of greed is one that opens the door to other sins which divert our attention from God’s original plan for our lives.

Greed and covetousness walk hand in hand, a greedy person would think he/she will be happy once gotten his desire but the reality is that once one desire is been fufiled it just brings more desires.paul in the book of Timothy said that the only way to overcome greed is to flee from it and pursue after righteousness,godlyness,faith,love, patience and gentleness.1 Timothy 6:11.

“Then he said to them watch out, be on guard against all kind of greed a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions” luke 12:15. God himself warns against greed because the greedy will not inherit the kingdom of God according to 1 Corinthians 6:10

LUST

Lust is the strong desire for something or someone.basically lust is just the focus on pleasing yourself which has severe consequences,the Bible warns against the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes, the lust of the eyes occurs when we see something visually that excites covetesness and other fruits of the devil, while the lust of the flesh refers to the desires of our flesh. Man has a sinful nature and our flesh is one sinful nature that will not be taken to heaven so as we need to learn to deal with our lust before we are dealt with.

ENVY

The emotion that occurs when one lacks another person’s possessions, achievement or even desires or wishes the other lacked it. Envy is a terrible sin with horrible consequences if nurtured in q person’s heart, we’ve read of biblical characters whose envy led to distructive consequences. In number 16 korah was envious of Moses and his end was disastrous (vrs 30-32)

” A sound heart is life to the body but envy is rottenness to the bones” proverbs 14:30

God doesn’t take the sin of envy with subtilty.

GLUTTONY

The act of over indulgence and consumption of food,drink and even wealth items is called gluttony. Many Christians take gluttony as a norm and hardy believe it’s a sin but it is a very big sin in the sight of God. Just as God will punish other sins he wouldn’t spare gluttons.

1 Corinthians 13 says that God shall destroy bother the meat and the belly. Food is to be eaten moderately and not over. Gluttony is not only with food but even wealth so Christians should be guided.

WRATH

Wrath is the senior brother of anger because it expresses itself in a desire to punish someone. It can also be seen as a strong vengeful anger or indignation towards someone or something, wrath is a dangerous character because it can make you do what you naturally cannot do. It is a destiny destroyer and Christians should try to keep their anger I check, the Bible made us to understand that getting angry is not a sin but we should not let the sun to set over our anger or we should not allow anger lead us to commit sin.

SLOTH

Sloth is the desire for ease, even at the expense of doing the will of God. Everything done in life requires effort and a slothful person is not ready for God’s will for his life because it takes effort to do it. Sloth is deeper than laziness and is a severe sinful heart condition. God detest a slothful person just as seen in the parable of the talent he referred to the one servant who buried his talent as slothful and that which belonged to him was taken and given to a hard-working person.mathew 25. The Bible encourage hard work and as a Christian we are supposed to be working the kingdom work. So a sloth cannot be able to please God which is the ultimate.
